RV-10 ER Tanks
are here !!

Hotel Whiskey Aviation and SafeAir1 are pleased to announce that the RV-10 tanks have moved from design and prototyping in to LIMITED production.

Throughout 2005 HWA will build and ship a limited number of RV-10 ER Tanks. The RV-10 Tanks utilize the proven electric fuel transfer system used in the RV7/8 and the tank geometry introduces no adverse CG or other loading issues into the RV-10 loading parameters. As such, HWA is comfortable in moving ahead with limited production and shipping of tanks to customers wanting to install ER Tanks in their wings during the construction phase.

Overall capacity of the ER Tank system is approximately 15 gallons which adds at least 1 hour of flying time to the typical 225 h.p. airplane. Surveys conducted by SafeAir1 throughout 2004 indicated that many RV-10 owners would be happy with 15 gallons of additional on-board fuel capacity.

ER Tanks effectively improve the overall performance and safety of the RV-10 by eliminating fuel stops during long cross country operations and allowing for improved VFR and IFR reserves. The ER Tanks allow the RV-10 owner to change the way flight planning is done for the aircraft.

Note: As of this date there are only two RV-10's flying (both belonging to Van's) so there has not yet been any test flying accomplished with the tanks in any RV-10.

Fly Further - Get There Quicker !!

The ER Tank pretty much fills the RV-10 wingtip space but still allows room for Van's landing light assembly in the forward tip area.

Note the strengthening "darts" welded into the tank body. These darts are mechanically attached into the wing rib and skin, providing very good strength characteristics.

The RV-10 ER Tank has multiple facets that allow it to roughly follow the countour of the upper and bottom wing surfaces. This is how HWA maximizes the volume in the tanks.

At left you can see the detail and craftsmanship that goes into each ER Tank.

The flush mount filler ring and cap allow for maximizing the fuel volume in the tee-head while allowing the builder to maintain the smooth, aerodynamic look of the basic wingtip. A small access door is cut into the wingtip to provide access to the fuel filler ring.
