Customer demand led to the additional capacity provided with the new RV-6 ER Tank design which incorporates a "tee-head" at the outboard end of the fuel tube. Overall capacity of the ER Tank system is approximately 8.8 gallons which adds 170 nautical miles of range to the typical 150 h.p. RV-6. With the ER Tanks, you can effectively improve the overall performance of your plane by eliminating fuel stops during long cross country operations.

On the RV-6, new tank designs incorporate a rectangular shaped box on the end of the tubular extended range tank. This "tee head" adds valuable fuel capacity to the RV-6

Below you can see how the tee head is attached to the tube. A bracket system is also welded to the tank which is not shown in these images.

In the image below you can see the wing tip area with the ER Tank in place. Note that you can see the ER Tank tube through the forward lightening hole in the wing rib at the station just inboard of the landing light.

This top view shows the flush mounted filler neck in the ER Tank. Note that this filler cap is the same part as is used in the main tanks provided by Van's Aircraft.

Fuel filler access is through the wingtip. A small access door is cut and hinged in place. The door, cleco'd in place below, closes down on a backing sill made from light guage aluminum and riveted into the wing tip surface. This is an aerodynamically smooth and aesthetically pleasing installation.
