On the RV-6, new tank designs incorporate a rectangular shaped box on the end of the tubular extended range tank. This "tee head" adds valuable fuel capacity to the RV-6
Below you can see how the tee head is attached to the tube. A bracket system is also welded to the tank which is not shown in these images.
In the image below you can see the wing tip area with the ER Tank in place. Note that you can see the ER Tank tube through the forward lightening hole in the wing rib at the station just inboard of the landing light. |
Fuel filler access is through the wingtip. A small access door is cut and hinged in place. The door, cleco'd in place below, closes down on a backing sill made from light guage aluminum and riveted into the wing tip surface. This is an aerodynamically smooth and aesthetically pleasing installation.
