Hotel Whiskey Aviation and SafeAir1 would like to thank Danny King, builder and owner of "Beautiful Doll" for installing the first customer set of ER Tanks for the RV-7 & 8. Completed in July of 2000, "The Doll" (as it is affectionately recognized in and around North Texas) sports a 200 HP Lycoming, a Hartzell CS propeller, and has 460 hours on it. Danny estimates the Doll's range to now be a full 1000 statute miles at 75% power. Now the Doll can keep on going and going and....
Beginning with the RV-6, new tank designs incorporate a rectangular shaped box on the end of the tubular extended range tank. This "tee head" adds valuable fuel capacity to the RV-7 and RV-8. Note the weld seams in the tee-head. Each ER Tank is fabricated with the utmost in care and workmanship.

The seam welding work done by the Hotel Whiskey guys is superb! Every tank is pressure tested for leaks and carefully assembled to provide excellent performance and life in the field. All hardware, fittings, brackets, hoses, and clamps in the ER Tank kit are aviation grade materials. The installation is structured around approved methods and techniques for aircraft systems. |
Note the flush filler cap location in the tee-head. This provides a clean look and finish and allows the tee-head box to be as large as possible inside the wing tip.
Each ER Tank kit comes complete with a full complement of hardware and installation guidelines containing lots of actual images of installation work in progress. |
Note the location of the Whelen strobe pak mounted on the Doll's outer rib. For planning purposes, builders may want to put the strobe paks in a similar location so as to avoid having to move them when installing ER Tanks. |
