ER Tank Design, Installation, & Operation

Quality design, materials, and workmanship are evident in each ER Tank built by Hotel Whiskey Aviation. Every tank is constructed from aviation grade 6061-T6 aluminum tubing and plate materials and utilizes "AN" fittings and components for all plumbing applications. The design has been tested for rigidity and load bearing strength and found to meet or exceed the RV load parameters. Additionally, each tank is inspected and pressure tested to insure quality prior to shipping.

Design & Testing

Images below show the fabrication and welding process and the tank undergoing load testing.

Installation

Here you can see the fuel feed fitting at the inboard rib station and the tank tip which extends into the wingtip space and contains the fuel filler cap and the vent tube fitting. Note the vent is NOT installed in the wingtip which facilitates easier wingtip maintenance.

Connections

Below you can see the fuel plumbing and fittings. All AN hardware is included with each ER Tank kit and a complete Installation Guide is provided.

Operations

Fuel transfer is accomplished by switching over the control lever on the manual transfer valve. When fuel transfer is complete, the valve is returned to the closed position. Filling of the ER Tank is done through the wingtip access door. Builders have utilized several different door and latch designs with the ER Tanks.

Hardware Kit

The complete hardware kit is INCLUDED with your purchase of an ER Tank kit. Buyers and builders of Van's aircraft kits have come to expect that "kits" will contain the necessary hardware to accomplish a standard installation. Hotel Whiskey Aviation does a very thorough job of providing each customer with a full hardward kit for doing a complete, high quality installation and this hardware kit is INCLUDED with each purchase of an ER Tank solution.

Two control valves are included.

All fittings are "AN" aircraft grade hardware.

Decals are included for fuel valve operation.

Recommended Installation Procedures are included as well as a SAMPLE Supplement to Flight Manual.

A full set of brackets are provided for mounting tanks in ribs.

Piano hinge is provided for wingtip doors.

Both fuel filler caps are included.
