Jan's top priority is for you become competent and safe in the RV. Once signed up and scheduled, Jan will send you several items so that you can begin preparing for flight training. By email, you will receive Jan's course syllabus as well as a checklist, weight and balance sheets, and operating limitations for the aircraft you will be flying. For best efficiency, it's important to familiarize yourself with these materials prior to beginning your training. A typical session will begin by getting familiar with either the RV-6A or the RV-6. After the preflight inspection the first flight will consist of a normal takeoff and climb to the nearby local practice area, where you will execute a series of maneuvers to develop a feel for the airplane. You will test your skills at normal and steep bank turns, slow flight, stall recognition and recovery, simulated landings and aircraft systems. This flight will terminate with 2 touch-and-go and one full-stop landing. The remainder of the flights will follow Jan's FAA approved course syllabus, with modifications made to accomodate pilot skill and experience. A couple of notes: 1) Jan uses his own FAA approved transition training course syllabus for flight training. Once you have contacted Jan he will send you (by email) a copy of the FAA approved syllabus. 2) Jan will quickly evaluate your skill level which will accrue to your benefit because he will be able to adjust and focus the the training sessions to best suit you. 3) Being about 6 foot, 2 inches tall and 250 lbs., Jan provides students with an opportunity to fly the RV-6A at or near maximum gross wt., an experience he heartily recommends before you load your own RV at or near its' maximum weight limitations. 4) You'll be flying out of River Acres Airport (FD70) uncontrolled, 122.9 CTAF, 3800' x 66' turf, private, land at your own risk. (This strip lies at the southern edge of R2901 I.) 5) Rough turf on North 1,000 ft. 6) AWOS now available at OBE, 118.675. 7) Use Miami sectional. Orlando MCO is 120 miles north and West Palm Beach PBI is 90 miles southeast. 8) Nearby Okeechobee Airport (OBE) provides two long paved runways with light to moderate traffic for pattern work and take off and landings. |
