The Ameri-King AK-450 and the ACK-E01 are two
of the most popular ELTs in the market. Their compact size and light weight
make them ideally suited for general aviation.
There is a safety advantage and operational savings
realized with either of these ELTs. Because both of these units
use D-cell batteries, savings to the owner and a higher degree of
ELT reliability can be had by simply installing fresh D-cell batteries
every year, during annual condition inspection of your airplane.
(The removed batteries are most likely still perfectly good and
can be recycled into home use flashlights, etc.)
These ELTs pay for themselves
in a few years !!
The table below outlines the various features
available with each of the ELTs. SafeAir1 gives a slight nod to the AK-450
because of the voice transmit feature that could be useful in a downed
aircraft situation for helping rescue efforts. The "warble"
tone of an activated ELT must be located with "DF Steering"
equipment but being able to ALSO transmit voice might allow pilots to
direct rescue efforts to the scene much more quickly.
For Experimental aircraft, the ELT you choose may be
based on how you plan to install the device. Click this button to
