SafeAir1
offers the complete line of CO Guardian carbon monoxide detectors
and warning systems and we think they are the best available for
aviation applications. But, if you are planning to buy and install
a CO detector, of ANY type or brand, in your airplane, there are
a few things we think you should know.
First:
All CO detectors have a limited service life. The
basic sensor technology will not last indefinitely and will need to be
replaced. Some manufacturers let you know about this, some don't. Regardless
of which type or brand CO detector you buy, make sure you understand the
product's lifetime limitations so you will know when to replace it.
Second:
Detection is one thing, Warning is another. In aviation,
it's not enough to simply DETECT the presence of CO; the system must also
WARN the pilot of excessive levels of cabin CO so that he/she can initiate
an action plan, (ideally a checklist directed plan). The CO Guardian systems
provide audible warning if cabin CO levels exceed certain thresholds.
The higher end models contain driver circuitry for an optional annunciator
lamp to provide visual warning cues, as well.
Third:
Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of CO poisoning
and the physiologic effects of CO in the blood. For more information on
these topics, click the buttons below.
Let us know if you have questions about the CO Guardian carbon monoxide
detector and warning systems which are not already answered here. At SafeAir1,
we believe a well informed pilot is a safer pilot and our happiest customer.
